Four Wise Men's Game Layout

Playing the Wise Men's Game

If you click, in the drawing, on each of the nine elements of the game, you'll find explanations for each of these elements. The nine elements are:

  • the four elements of truth which define the map

  • the four wise man cards which define the four truths

  • the axis mundi at the center of the game.

The Stories Card

There are three qualities which define each game card, the time and place in which they occur and the type of experience.

With stories, the time is a single series of similarly sized, consecutive times with an approximate beginning and end. The place is a single series of similarly sized, consecutive places within a specific physical frame of reference. And the experience is that of creating a cohesive series of similarly sized, consecutive ODEs in a single reference time and place with an approximate beginning and end.

Realize this is just another way to refer to the Empirical Wise Man's realm, visible change. Here, visible means stories must refer to something physical not mental;some person, place, thing, or event that can be seen. And change refers to the idea that in the real world, both time and place stand never stand still. Indeed, this is what makes stories a real world truth, the idea that they constantly change with every retelling.

This then is the hardest thing to understand about stories. And about real world things in general. Because they constantly change, they're hard to measure, even though they can be seen. And since reliable repetition is generally seen as a proof for truth, even though they're visible, stories are often undervalued.
